Another gym called Capital City joined us for the camp. The activities were a lot of fun with them. In the end it was a good camp.

Preparing for Competition.

We have a competition coming up so I thought I would do a blog post on what we do to prepare for competitions. A couple weeks before the competition, we basically just work on making sure that our skills are solid and that we are consistent with them. If you are not consistent with them then your routines will not be very good and you won't do very well at a competition. Then about a week to a week and a half before the competition is when you start working on your routines and putting your skills in your routines. After you do that the rest of the time leading up to the competition is spent on perfecting our routines and your skills. Normally I just do 10 routines on bars and beam, 2 routines on floor and a whole lot of vaults. It doesn't seem like too much, but it is really important if you want to do well at a competition. It is all pretty basic, but it doesn't have to be a lot.

My Favourite Event the Uneven Bars!!!

One of the first skills in her routine is a skill I am working on. The one where she rotates around the low bar then lets go, flips and catches the high bar. Yes, I am working on that. Although it is dangerous because I smacked my feet on the bar and it made a loud pinging noise. Oh well, I'll just keep working it I guess.

The Go Center

This is the Go Center, where our new gym is located.

June is Going to be Awesome!!!

My gym is planning to do a whole bunch of things in June. We have a Carnival on June 4th from 10am to 4 pm. There are going to be things like throwing pie in peoples faces and a dunk tank! It is going to be so much fun, I can't wait! We are also having our own gymnastics competition on June 17th to 19th. It is going to be my first competition in the bubble and my last. I am so excited. We also have a golf tournament, but I don't know much about that because it hasn't been talked about much. As you can see the month of June for Ortona is packed full of things to do. It is going to be one heck of a month!

You've Got to Love Summer Training.

Right now I train in a bubble, but in July we are moving to a new place calle the Go Center. It is going to be so much better to train in because right now it is really hot in the bubble. New skills is the main point of our training. Yesterday we went to Floor, Vault and Beam. On Floor I am working on twisting in my tumbling. On Vault I am working something called a Tsukahara and on Beam I am working things like backtucks. Thats all I'm really working right now, but during the summer I am planning to work more skills.

The Most Basic Skill, The HANDSTAND!!!

The most basic skill in gymnastics is a handstand. Every skill, and I mean every skill goes through handstand at one point or another.  If you don't have a good handstand then you won't get very far in gymnastics. Everything in gymnastics revolves around a handstand and if you don't know how to do one I have a video show you.

Skills, Conditioning, and Running!!!

At this time of year all we do is work new skills to get to higher levels and become better gymnasts, condition a lot to get more muscle to work those new skills, and then there's the running. New skills is the main part of the training during the summer, but during the competition season it's all about routines. The competition season is a lot different then summer training. The summer training has a lot of conditioning, way more than the competition season. Then there's the running. We don't run at all during the competition season mostly because its winter. After all of that during training i always come home really tired.

4 Hours a Day... You Think I'd be Bored

Gymnastics is basically my life and don't really do anything else. I do so much Gymnastics that I don't have much time to do anything else. If I talked about anything else I wouldn't have much to say. I train at Ortona Gymnastics which is a big bubble. It is fun, but it gets sooo hot in the summer and sooo cold in the winter. I have a lot to say, but I'll save that for my next post.
